A MAN was rushed to hospital after he was seriously hurt in a crash in Cowfold this morning.

Police say the man was trapped in a car on the A272 at 7.20am today (Friday September 5).

Firefighters used heavy rescue equipment to free the driver after his car was involved in a collision with another car near the junction with Kent Street, Cowfold.

An ambulance crew took the man, who was thought to have potentially life-threatening injuries, to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel Road, London.

Police closed the road between Cowfold and Bolney, diverting rush-hour traffic.

The road has now been reopened.

Fire and rescue crews from Partridge Green, Horsham, Burgess Hill and Hurstpierpoint attended the crash and were at the scene for about an hour.

A fire and rescue service spokesman said: "One male was extricated using heavy rescue equipment and taken to hospital by ambulance."
